Lunch Talk Series: Django needs you! (to do code review)
This iteration of the Lunch Talk Series will be covering Sarah Boyce’s excellent DjangoCon Europe 2025 Keynote, “Django needs you! (to do code review)”.
You should watch this if:
- You’re interested in doing code reviews for Django
- You want to be more involved in the Django community
- You’re looking for resources on performing code reviews
- You’d like an example of a well-done talk
This talk covers a variety of topics:
- An overview of the challenge of code reviews for the Django framework
- The process for committing code to Django
- An approach to code reviews for Django (that’s accessible to everyone!)
- The attention problem
- An engaging question and answer section with the community
Sarah is one of my favorite speakers as well as one of my favorite people. She’s extremely charismatic and presents as her full self. I always find myself laughing during her talks. This talk is no different, she presents a technical and important topic in a way that’s fun to follow along.
My personal takeaway is to focus my code review (and contribution) efforts on a single area of the codebase. I haven’t been good about this in the past and I’ve heard this feedback several times in the past year. Hopefully this time it sticks!
